  41. 1) CREDITCARD ETHERNET ADAPTER IIps CHARACTERISTICS
  42.    ================================================
  43.    This release of Xircom's CreditCard Ethernet Adapter IIps has the 
  44.    following characteristics:
  45.  
  46.    -Card and Socket Services is a software specification defined by the 
  47.     PCMCIA organization.  Its purpose is to serve as an intermediary 
  48.     between the network device driver and the system resources required by 
  49.     the PCMCIA Adapter.
  50.     
  51.    -Intended for use with Intel 82365 PCIC, Databook TCIC, Cirrus Logic 
  52.     CL-PD6710 or CL-PD6720, or Toshiba ICCNT PCMCIA interface chips.
  53.  
  54.    -Variable interrupts, 3 to 15, default interrupt 5.
  55.  
  56.    -Variable I/O window, 16 bytes needed, default base at 300h.
  57.  
  58.    -Requires a 4Kbyte memory window on a 4Kbyte boundary, within segment 
  59.     C000h to EF00h, default is D100h.  
  60.

  91. 2) RELEASE NOTE
  92.    ===================
  93.    Release 2.03 of the Xircom CreditCard Ethernet Adapter IIps Network 
  94.    Drivers provides support for Microsoft Windows NT 3.1 and 3.5.

  96. 3) NDIS 3.0 NOTE
  97.    ==============
  98.    The PCMCIA advanced features, such as hotswapping and suspend/resume,
  99.    are not supported with NDIS 3.0 and the CreditCard Ethernet Adpater IIps.
  100.  
  101. 4) CE2CFG.EXE CONFIGURATION UTILITY
  102.    ================================
  103.    Supplied on the Network Drivers disk is a utility called CE2CFG.EXE.  
  104.    The utility can be run from the DOS command line or included in the 
  105.    AUTOEXEC.BAT file or the CONFIG.SYS file.  It is recommended that 
  106.    CE2CFG.EXE be run prior to loading any DOS Xircom network driver.  
  107.    This utility is intended for DOS usage only. 
  108.  
  109.    The CE2CFG.EXE utility must be informed about which type of network 
  110.    driver your network uses: NDIS, ODI, or Packet driver.  The CE2CFG.EXE 
  111.    file must be located in the same directory as the network driver.
  112.  
  113.    The CE2CFG.EXE allows the Xircom CreditCard Ethernet Adapter IIps to 
  114.    become a client of Card Services.  This is mandatory to support the 
  115.    functions of Card and Socket Services.  CE2CFG.EXE must be loaded prior 
  116.    to loading a network driver when using Card and Socket Services.

  119. 5 OS/2 NOTES
  120.    ==========
  121.    The OS/2 configuration utility, CEXCFG.OS2, was not available at the 
  122.    time of this release.  Therefore there is not an OS/2 resource manager 
  123.    available to support OS/2 Card and Socket Services and support of 
  124.    advanced features of PCMCIA, such as HotSwapping.  It will be available 
  125.    in a future release and available on the Xircom INFOSYS BBS.

  127. 6) SPECIAL SOFTWARE NOTES

  145.    -The OS/2 drivers available on the disk are intended to support OS/2 
  146.     versions 2.x.  These drivers do not support Microsoft OS/2 version 1.3.

  148.    -During installation of NetWare Requester version 2.01 for OS/2, when 
  149.     prompted for the source drive, which has default A:, insert the Network 
  150.     Drivers disk and press return following prompted instructions.  The 
  151.     CE2ODI.OS2 driver is located in the root of this diskette, as well in 
  152.     the ODI subdirectory, for an easier installation.

  176. 7) MACHINE SPECIFIC NOTES
  177.    ======================
  178.  
  179.    Dell Lattitude
  180.    --------------
  181.    The Dell Lattitude laptops may have a chipset which is not compatible
  182.    with Microsoft Windows NT and cannot be used with the CreditCard
  183.    Ethernet Adapter in this environment.
  184.  
  185.    Dell 320SLi
  186.    -----------
  187.    The Dell 320SLi laptops may have an early version of Socket Services, 
  188.    built into the BIOS, that is not compatible with newer PCMCIA software 
  189.    specifications.  In this case, either the NET.CFG file must be edited to 
  190.    include the keyword string 'socketservices NO', or the PROTOCOL.INI file 
  191.    must include the keyword string 'socketservices = NO'.  
  192.     
  193.    The Dell must also be run in IO mode.  To do this, add the following line 
  194.    to the NET.CFG or PROTOCOL.INI or run the Packet Driver as shown below.

  210.    The following computers must run in I/O mode and need to have the 
  211.    keyword "Mode IO" for the NET.CFG or "Mode=IO" for the PROTOCOL.INI:

  214.    -GRiD Convertible
  215.    -HP OmniBooks 300 and 4xx Series
  216.  
  217.    IBM 720
  218.    -------
  219.    The IBM 720 needs to be run in 25MHz mode in order to support this card.  
  220.    It will be fully supported in a future release.
  221.  
  222.    NCR 3150
  223.    --------
  224.    In order to use Card and Socket Services with this machine it must be 
  225.    run in IO mode.
  226.  
  227.    Sharp 6781
  228.    ----------
  229.    We are unable to support this chipset "PHIC" at this time; it will be 
  230.    made available in a future release of this software.
  231.  
  232.    Toshiba T3300SL
  233.    ---------------
  234.    We are unable to support Card and Socket Services with this 
  235.    chipset "ICC/NT" at this time.  To use the card, remove the Card and 
  236.    Socket Services in the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT.  There is no need 
  237.    to run the CE2CFG program; simply run the appropriate network driver, 
  238.    such as CE2ODI, CE2NDIS, or CE2PD.
  239.  
  240.    Toshiba 1900, 1950CS
  241.    --------------------
  242.    This model will not initialize properly at IO port 300.  Choose another 
  243.    IO port, such as 310.
  244.  
  245.    Zeos
  246.    ----
  247.    The Zeos laptops need to have the keyword "Mode IO" for the NET.CFG 
  248.    or "Mode = IO" for the PROTOCOL.INI.
  249.  
  250.  
  251. 8) XIRCOM INSTALLATION PROGRAM NOTES
  252.    =================================
  253.  
  254.    The Xircom CreditCard Ethernet Adapter Installation Program is provided 
  255.    to automate configuration of your PC and network drivers, and to install
  256.    the electronic Help and User's Guide files.
  257.  
  258.    The Windows Setup program included on the Installation & Utilities Disk
  259.    contains on-line Help and an electronic User's Guide. 
  260.  
  261.    To view the on-line User's Guide, either click on the "Help" button
  262.    during Setup, or click on the "Help" icon from the Xircom CreditCard
  263.    Program Group.
  264.  
  265.    A DOS version of the User's Guide is available on the Installation 
  266.    Program Disk under MANUAL.TXT.
  267.    
  268.    The online Help function contained in the program provides information 
  269.    about the selections encountered during the installation process, as well
  270.    as a complete User's Guide.  This section of the README file provides 
  271.    information about specific environments that may not be addressed by the 
  272.    installation program, or items that will be included in future releases.
  273.  
  274.    DOS 6.x STARTUP MENU NOTES   
  275.    --------------------------
  276.    The Xircom CreditCard Ethernet Adapter IIps requires a 4K range of 
  277.    your PC's memory.  If you are using a memory manager such as HIMEM.SYS,
  278.    EMM386.SYS, or QEMM.SYS, the installation program will attempt to 
  279.    exclude this 4K memory range.
  280.  
  281.    If you have multiple startup (boot) selections available, the
  282.    installation program will display a message which will ask you whether
  283.    you would like the program to exclude this memory range in each of
  284.    your startup options, or save the recommended changes in a separate
  285.    file so you can make changes only to the startup option or options 
  286.    you wish.
  287.  
  288.    PREVIOUS INSTALLATIONS
  289.    ----------------------
  290.    If you have existing network drivers loaded in your CONFIG.SYS or
  291.    AUTOEXEC.BAT, the installation program will not complete its
  292.    installation.  You will need to remove or REM out the existing
  293.    driver entries in your system files and rerun the Xircom installation
  294.    program in order for configuration to be completed correctly.
  295.  
  296.    NETWARE 4.01 INSTALLATION NOTES
  297.    -------------------------------
  298.    The Novell NetWare 4.01 Client Install program does not support
  299.    loading of Xircom's CE2CFG.EXE file, which is a file required for 
  300.    configuration of some PCMCIA slots.  If you complete the NetWare 4.01 
  301.    installation and experience problems attaching to your network,
  302.    follow these instructions:
  303.  
  304.    Using a DOS editor (such as EDIT), edit your STARTNET.BAT file and
  305.    add the line CE2CFG before the lines LSL and CEODI.
  306.  
  307. 9) XIRCOM TECHNICAL SUPPORT

  309.    To obtain technical support for your Xircom product, please call or send 
  310.    a facsimile to the appropriate number listed below.  Access the Xircom 
  311.    INFOSYS BBS at up to 14400 bps, No parity, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit 
  312.    (N-8-1).  Use ANSI, TTY, or NONE for your terminal emulation as the 
  313.    Xircom BBS PCs do not support DEC VT-type terminal emulations.
