- 1) CREDITCARD ETHERNET ADAPTER IIps CHARACTERISTICS
- ================================================
- This release of Xircom's CreditCard Ethernet Adapter IIps has the
- following characteristics:
-
- -Card and Socket Services is a software specification defined by the
- PCMCIA organization. Its purpose is to serve as an intermediary
- between the network device driver and the system resources required by
- the PCMCIA Adapter.
-
- -Intended for use with Intel 82365 PCIC, Databook TCIC, Cirrus Logic
- CL-PD6710 or CL-PD6720, or Toshiba ICCNT PCMCIA interface chips.
-
- -Variable interrupts, 3 to 15, default interrupt 5.
-
- -Variable I/O window, 16 bytes needed, default base at 300h.
-
- -Requires a 4Kbyte memory window on a 4Kbyte boundary, within segment
- C000h to EF00h, default is D100h.
-
- *** NOTE: WE DO NOT SUPPORT THE D000-D0FF SEGMENT. SEE SECTION 6
- *** UNDER MEMORY RANGE NOTES.
-
- -Keyword support to disable link integrity.
-
- -ODI, NDIS for OS/2 2.1 and DOS support, and PACKET drivers.
-
- -Continued support of Advanced Power Management for suspend/resume and
- HotSwapping through the use of Card and Socket Services.
-
- -Power On/Off - turn power to the CreditCard on or off at the slot
- using a Power On/Off feature through CE2CFG.
-
- -The CreditCard Ethernet Adapter IIps requires only a 4K memory window
- leaving more upper memory blocks free.
-
- -Full Duplex capabilities increases bandwith to 20Mbps.
-
- -Advanced Look-Ahead Pipelining drivers for superior adapter performance.
-
- -Windows- and DOS-based installation program automatically configures PC
- and NOS setup.
-
- -NDIS 3.0 drivers for Microsoft's Windows for Workgroups and Windows NT
-
- -Novell NetWare Server Driver for NetWare 3.11, 3.12, 4.01, and 4.02.
-
- -CE2TEST utility for diagnostic testing.
-
-
- 2) RELEASE NOTE
- ===================
- Release 2.03 of the Xircom CreditCard Ethernet Adapter IIps Network
- Drivers provides support for Microsoft Windows NT 3.1 and 3.5.
-
- 3) NDIS 3.0 NOTE
- ==============
- The PCMCIA advanced features, such as hotswapping and suspend/resume,
- are not supported with NDIS 3.0 and the CreditCard Ethernet Adpater IIps.
-
- 4) CE2CFG.EXE CONFIGURATION UTILITY
- ================================
- Supplied on the Network Drivers disk is a utility called CE2CFG.EXE.
- The utility can be run from the DOS command line or included in the
- AUTOEXEC.BAT file or the CONFIG.SYS file. It is recommended that
- CE2CFG.EXE be run prior to loading any DOS Xircom network driver.
- This utility is intended for DOS usage only.
-
- The CE2CFG.EXE utility must be informed about which type of network
- driver your network uses: NDIS, ODI, or Packet driver. The CE2CFG.EXE
- file must be located in the same directory as the network driver.
-
- The CE2CFG.EXE allows the Xircom CreditCard Ethernet Adapter IIps to
- become a client of Card Services. This is mandatory to support the
- functions of Card and Socket Services. CE2CFG.EXE must be loaded prior
- to loading a network driver when using Card and Socket Services.
-
-
- 5 OS/2 NOTES
- ==========
- The OS/2 configuration utility, CEXCFG.OS2, was not available at the
- time of this release. Therefore there is not an OS/2 resource manager
- available to support OS/2 Card and Socket Services and support of
- advanced features of PCMCIA, such as HotSwapping. It will be available
- in a future release and available on the Xircom INFOSYS BBS.
-
- 6) SPECIAL SOFTWARE NOTES
- ======================
-
- *** ***
- *** MEMORY MANAGERS ***
- *** =============== ***
- *** ***
- *** When using a memory manager, be certain to exclude the memory ***
- *** range being used by the CreditCard adapter. A 4K range will ***
- *** need to be excluded within C000 to EF00. ***

- *** CreditCard in a default configuration. If the CreditCard is ***
- *** configured for a memory address different from the default, ***
- *** be certain to exclude that memory address range in use. ***
- *** ***
-
- -The OS/2 drivers available on the disk are intended to support OS/2
- versions 2.x. These drivers do not support Microsoft OS/2 version 1.3.
-
- -During installation of NetWare Requester version 2.01 for OS/2, when
- prompted for the source drive, which has default A:, insert the Network
- Drivers disk and press return following prompted instructions. The
- CE2ODI.OS2 driver is located in the root of this diskette, as well in
- the ODI subdirectory, for an easier installation.

- 7) MACHINE SPECIFIC NOTES
- ======================
-
- Dell Lattitude
- --------------
- The Dell Lattitude laptops may have a chipset which is not compatible
- with Microsoft Windows NT and cannot be used with the CreditCard
- Ethernet Adapter in this environment.
-
- Dell 320SLi
- -----------
- The Dell 320SLi laptops may have an early version of Socket Services,
- built into the BIOS, that is not compatible with newer PCMCIA software
- specifications. In this case, either the NET.CFG file must be edited to
- include the keyword string 'socketservices NO', or the PROTOCOL.INI file
- must include the keyword string 'socketservices = NO'.
-
- The Dell must also be run in IO mode. To do this, add the following line
- to the NET.CFG or PROTOCOL.INI or run the Packet Driver as shown below.
-
- . NET.CFG example:
- . Link Driver CE2ODI
- . SOCKETSERVICES NO
- . MODE IO
- .
- . PROTOCOL.INI example:
- . [XIRCMAC]
- . SOCKETSERVICE = NO
- . MODE = IO
- .
- . PACKET DRIVER example
- . ce2cfg driver=packet socketservices=no mode=IO
- . ce2pd socketservices=no mode=IO
-
- The following computers must run in I/O mode and need to have the
- keyword "Mode IO" for the NET.CFG or "Mode=IO" for the PROTOCOL.INI:
-
- -Gateway Colorbook 40MHz and 75Mhz
- -GRiD Convertible
- -HP OmniBooks 300 and 4xx Series
-
- IBM 720
- -------
- The IBM 720 needs to be run in 25MHz mode in order to support this card.
- It will be fully supported in a future release.
-
- NCR 3150
- --------
- In order to use Card and Socket Services with this machine it must be
- run in IO mode.
-
- Sharp 6781
- ----------
- We are unable to support this chipset "PHIC" at this time; it will be
- made available in a future release of this software.
-
- Toshiba T3300SL
- ---------------
- We are unable to support Card and Socket Services with this
- chipset "ICC/NT" at this time. To use the card, remove the Card and
- Socket Services in the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT. There is no need
- to run the CE2CFG program; simply run the appropriate network driver,
- such as CE2ODI, CE2NDIS, or CE2PD.
-
- Toshiba 1900, 1950CS
- --------------------
- This model will not initialize properly at IO port 300. Choose another
- IO port, such as 310.
-
- Zeos
- ----
- The Zeos laptops need to have the keyword "Mode IO" for the NET.CFG
- or "Mode = IO" for the PROTOCOL.INI.
-
-
- 8) XIRCOM INSTALLATION PROGRAM NOTES
- =================================
-
- The Xircom CreditCard Ethernet Adapter Installation Program is provided
- to automate configuration of your PC and network drivers, and to install
- the electronic Help and User's Guide files.
-
- The Windows Setup program included on the Installation & Utilities Disk
- contains on-line Help and an electronic User's Guide.
-
- To view the on-line User's Guide, either click on the "Help" button
- during Setup, or click on the "Help" icon from the Xircom CreditCard
- Program Group.
-
- A DOS version of the User's Guide is available on the Installation
- Program Disk under MANUAL.TXT.
-
- The online Help function contained in the program provides information
- about the selections encountered during the installation process, as well
- as a complete User's Guide. This section of the README file provides
- information about specific environments that may not be addressed by the
- installation program, or items that will be included in future releases.
-
- DOS 6.x STARTUP MENU NOTES
- --------------------------
- The Xircom CreditCard Ethernet Adapter IIps requires a 4K range of
- your PC's memory. If you are using a memory manager such as HIMEM.SYS,
- EMM386.SYS, or QEMM.SYS, the installation program will attempt to
- exclude this 4K memory range.
-
- If you have multiple startup (boot) selections available, the
- installation program will display a message which will ask you whether
- you would like the program to exclude this memory range in each of
- your startup options, or save the recommended changes in a separate
- file so you can make changes only to the startup option or options
- you wish.
-
- PREVIOUS INSTALLATIONS
- ----------------------
- If you have existing network drivers loaded in your CONFIG.SYS or
- AUTOEXEC.BAT, the installation program will not complete its
- installation. You will need to remove or REM out the existing
- driver entries in your system files and rerun the Xircom installation
- program in order for configuration to be completed correctly.
-
- NETWARE 4.01 INSTALLATION NOTES
- -------------------------------
- The Novell NetWare 4.01 Client Install program does not support
- loading of Xircom's CE2CFG.EXE file, which is a file required for
- configuration of some PCMCIA slots. If you complete the NetWare 4.01
- installation and experience problems attaching to your network,
- follow these instructions:
-
- Using a DOS editor (such as EDIT), edit your STARTNET.BAT file and
- add the line CE2CFG before the lines LSL and CEODI.
